August 27, 2009

During the 2009 Commencement, President Michael Wood announced the formation of the Alumni Association task force, tasked with beginning the process of developing a national alumni association for the college. Dr. Michael Gibbs, vice president for advancement, appointed a group of individuals to form the task force with input from faculty, the alumni advisory board and the Office of Student Life and Retention. The task force was given the responsibility of developing a mission and vision statement along with an organizational structure through a formal set of bylaws.

Before the end of the 2009 calendar year, the task force hopes to complete their work in establishing the Alumni Association with the mission, vision, and bylaws. Then a formal recommendation to the Office of Advancement and President Wood for review. Ultimately, the goal is to form the Capitol College Alumni Association by the 2010 Commencement.

Over the summer, the task force held several meetings and formed two working groups to begin the process of drafting a mission and vision statement, as well as bylaws for the alumni association. Decisions were based on collaboration and review of examples of documents from other colleges and universities in the state of Maryland and throughout the region. The task force has developed an initial document which is now available for review and comment by the entire Capitol College community.

Bylaws Feedback

In an effort to keep the process of developing bylaws transparent, the task force invites and encourages comments from all alumni and other Capitol College constituents to review and comment upon the initial draft document below. Please submit your thoughts, reactions, ideas and suggestions via the bylaws feedback form.

Alumni Association Bylaws

Comments will be compiled and provided to the task force, on an ongoing basis, for review and consideration. Based on the input received, the document may be edited.

Thank you for your interest in Capitol College and the formation of our alumni association.
