Management of Cyber and Information Technology (MCIT)

The general mission of the Management of Cyber and Information Technology program is to produce systems thinkers with both management expertise and technical competence.  Students will understand the demands of technical jobs and will be able to facilitate, from a managerial standpoint, an effective and efficient working environment for employees.

 

Learning Goals

The broad-based student learning goals for the Management of Cyber and Information Technology program are as follows:

  • Employability:  to produce business professionals who will have an understanding of the difference between theory and practice and how to extract from theory and extend its application to real-world situations.
  • Communications:  to produce business professionals who will be able to effectively communicate their ideas in both written and oral form (technical and non-technical) understanding that communication is a cooperative process in both the one-on-one and team environment.
  • Preparation of the Mind:  to produce business professionals who will have a broad intellectual grounding in business and/or technology.  Graduates will be able to analyze situations and successfully determine cause and effect and know how to use contemporary research tools as well as more traditional methods to locate and analyze information and develop knowledge.
  • Professionalism: to produce business professionals who will have an understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.  Graduateswill have an understanding of the possible social, economic, cultural and environmental impact of their business and/or technical solutions in a global and social context and will recognize that lifelong learning is essential to the ongoing process of professional and personal development.

Outcomes

Upon graduation, graduates will:

  • be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legal and ethical principles applicable to the business and information security environments and demonstrate the ability to apply these principles in the leadership decision-making process.
  • be able to demonstrate a mastery of traditional and technological techniques of communicating ideas effectively and persuasively.
  • be able to demonstrate and apply in depth knowledge as it relates to the business core courses.
  • be able to demonstrate and apply in depth knowledge as it relates to core technology course.
  • be able to demonstrate an understanding of how the functional areas of technology and information assurance work together to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and network-centric services and information in the business environment.
  • be able to understand and be able to evaluate possible economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of their business solutions.
  • be prepared to enter global organizations with a strong understanding of business development concepts, project management processes, and team management skills.
  • be able to develop and implement strategic management and action plans for an organization.
